    Our Edinburgh clinic is a true flagship location and as Clinic Director you will be fully accountable for its overall success. This is a “mixed services location” that is due to open in the next few weeka and will include optical retail, refractive consultations and laser eye and lens surgery. As such, this role requires the very best in operational management coupled with clinical strength.


    Your background will be in a similar environment and you will have experience managing a large team consisting of managers, associated sales and healthcare professionals and surgery teams -  all contributing to a multi-million pound turnover location.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    Responsible for the operational efficiency of the clinic and store; a key part of your role will be developing your team to deliver on challenging but attainable performance goals.  


    • Reporting to your Regional Manager for all operational matters, you will provide performance and operational updates whenever required.
    • As Clinic Director, you will also act as the clinic’s lead Optometrist and invest time performing optical examinations, refractive surgery pre and post-op consultations and surgery support diaries to ensure you are positioned to support the ongoing development of your Optometrist team. 
    • Full compliance with Optical Express clinical policies, procedures and directives is a mandatory requirement of all healthcare professionals.  You must endorse this to the clinic Optometry, Ophthalmology and Surgery teams.
    • In this role, you will lead the surgery management teams to operational excellence whilst building strong, performance led relationships with the treating Ophthalmic Surgeons that operate from the clinic. 
    • You will support the regional Optometry Development Manager, Surgery Services Manager and Clinical Director with clinical & performance development of Optometrists and Surgery team members on an ongoing basis.  From a clinical perspective you report directly to the Optometry Development Manager and thereafter the Group Clinical Director.
    • Work towards building a regional centre of excellence, where clinical, surgical and operational inductions can take place.
    • Lead daily team briefs, weekly management meetings and period reviews with your team to maintain a consistent level of communication and alignment around your expectations and objectives. 
    • Manage the clinics consumer and employer brand reputation. 
    • Work with the central marketing team on initiatives that could lead to the provision of eye care to a wider population than those the clinic currently provides services to.
    • Minimise the occurrence of customer complaints through improved customer care and quality of service. To resolve any complaints quickly, efficiently and professionally and to retain customer loyalty.  You will serve as the point person for complex cases for the clinic.  This will involve you communicating with patients by telephone, or in person.  
    • Personally conduct, and encourage your Managers to conduct ongoing team observation as a platform for performance management and coaching for excellence. 
    • Take ownership of all recruitment activity within the clinic ensuring the on boarding and induction process is fully supported.
    • Develop the teams competence and confidence in role with the support of your regional L&D Officer, ODM and Clinical Director. 
    • Promote the One Team company value between the clinical, surgical and retail teams.
    • Be the Registered Manager with the CQC for the clinic.
